Union Church of Dunnigan

About the organization

Dedicated to the memory of our dear spirit Teri Laugenour (2/17/1954 – 11/19/2023).

The Union Church of Dunnigan (located in Dunnigan, Yolo County, California) was built in 1893 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, #03000613. The Union Church of Dunnigan nonprofit organization (501c3) maintains the free history museum.

The mission of the organization is for the preservation and restoration of The Union Church of Dunnigan building. The primary objective of the Board of Trustees is to oversee the preservation and restoration of the  historic building and to maintain the property as a free museum of Yolo County history.

Secondarily, it is our goal to use the property as an event venue to sustain and maintain the historic building. To this end, we will soon launch our Capital Campaign, hopefully by summer 2024.

We invite the Dunnigan community and all Yoloans to help this important cause. Too many of our local historical assets have disappeared due to neglect or ambivalence.

We are temporarily closed while we continue our restoration work. We look forward to resuming our regular Fourth Saturday open houses and work days, 9 am to 1 pm.

About the restoration project

Our goal is to restore the Union Church of Dunnigan building so it looks as similar as possible to the original structure built in 1893. We intend to use the restored building (with some modern improvements) as part of a community venue and free museum.

To see the progress of our restoration, we invite our Dunnigan neighbors and the Yolo community to visit us each Fourth Saturday of the month at our open house and work day (usually 9:00 am to 1:00 pm).

The most recent work completed, that is unseen, is the stabilization and leveling of the foundation. Upon its completion we began to restore the large trinity windows… the first step was replacing the disintegrated frames with new wood, and secondly, we replaced the ad hoc glass that was added over time with colored glass that matches the many original panes still left. This work will soon be unveiled when the protective polybicarbonate panels are installed on the exterior of the window frames.

There are also 14 smaller windows that are being restored right now, and we expect to install those by spring, 2024. Stay tuned for more restoration news, and please consider making a contribution to our work.
