Our goal
Community and memories since 1893
Perched in Yolo County, California, the Union Church of Dunnigan is a strong and lasting part of the community that has stood in Dunnigan for over 130 years. The church is the last remaining building from the town’s original downtown. It is a designated landmark and a symbol of the community coming together for the future and to honor the past.
As we look to the next 100 years, the church’s role is far more than simply a building but a gathering place for the community, a place to come together to learn about the past and create the future. We look forward to bringing local history and artifact to the museum with cultural, educational, and community events.
Opening the doors once again, the Union Church of Dunnigan renovations include restoring the original structure as much as possible to its beginnings, will be adding accessibility, functionality, and versatility. Doing so well greatly increase the availability and options for community use. Plans include restoring large windows, renovating museum space, renovation of community space and updating utilities, as well as other items deemed necessary to meet today’s compliance and regulations.
The trustees of the church are working to care for the church property and now invite the community to ensure the continued vitality of this historic landmark. The Union Church of Dunnigan Trustees are launching the Union Church of Dunnigan Restoration Project to fulfill the dream of a fully restored historic building enabling greater community use while honoring both the history and its prominence in the Dunnigan community.

Our budget
First of all, our goal for the Restoration Project is $300,000. We started our fundraising in 2017 to address the immediate needs of the structure at the time. Since then, we’ve collaborated with Yolo County to determine a comprehensive restoration plan.
Last year, August 2023, the Union Church of Dunnigan received $86,325 from Yolo County as part of its Rural Initiative program.
Previously, in September 2017, we received $50,000 in Rural Initiative funds.
We have also received generous donations from the NSGW Historic Preservation Foundation, the Woodland Stroll Through History, Woodland Parlor 30 NSGW and through the Sacramento Region Committee Foundation “Big Day of Giving.”
As of June 1, 2024, we’ve raised over $158,000… so we have met about 53% of our goal. We want to make a big push this summer to reach our goal to restore the church building so that we may open the doors to the community once again.
